Getting Started When using your device the first time, complete these tasks to set it up and get to know the basic features:

  1. Press and hold the power button to turn on the device.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to select your language and begin activating your device.
  3. Download the Garmin Messenger™ app to your phone and follow the on-screen instructions to pair and activate your device.
  4. Download the Garmin Explore™ app to your phone and log in with the account information you used to activate a service plan.
  5. Sync your device with the Garmin Messenger or Garmin Explore app.
  6. Test your device before you begin your trip.

Pairing Your Phone and Activating the Device WARNING: Before using the inReach features, including messaging, SOS, tracking, and inReach Weather, you must have an active satellite subscription. Always test your device before using it outdoors.

  1. Turn on the inReach device.
  2. Bring your compatible phone within 10 m (33 ft.) of your device.
  3. Download the Garmin Messenger app and follow the on-screen instructions to complete pairing.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate a subscription service plan.

Garmin Messenger App WARNING: Before using certain inReach features, including SOS, tracking, and inReach Weather, you must have an active satellite subscription and a connected inReach device. Always test the app before using it outdoors.

  • Place the device with the antenna pointed toward the sky for the best connection.

Bluetooth Connected Features

  • View downloaded maps on your phone in the Garmin Explore app.
  • Sync data with your device using the Garmin Explore or Garmin Messenger apps.

Syncing inReach Data

Sending a Check-In Message

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Check In.
  3. Select a message and send it.

Sending a Text Message

  2. Select Send Message.
  3. Choose recipients and write or select a pre-written message.
  4. Send the message.

Posting to Social Media

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Send Message.
  3. Select social media options and send the message.

Checking for Messages

  • Your device checks for messages every hour or manually when you send a message or track point.

Replying to a Message

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Messages, and select a conversation.
  3. Reply to the message.

Adding a Contact from a Message

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Messages, and select a conversation.
  3. Add the contact.

Viewing Message Details

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Messages, and select a conversation.
  3. View details.

Navigating to a Message Location

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Messages, and select a conversation with location information.
  3. Navigate to the location.

Deleting Messages

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Messages, and select a conversation.
  3. Delete the message.

Contacts

  • Add, delete, and edit contacts on the inReach Mini 2 device.

inReach Tracking

  • Record track points and transmit them over the Iridium satellite network.

Starting Tracking

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Start Tracking.

Navigating to the Start of Your Current Track

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Tracking, and navigate back to the start.

Stopping Tracking

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Stop Tracking and save or discard the track.

Sharing Your MapShare Web Page

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Tracking, and share with contacts.

SOS WARNING: Before using the SOS function, you must have an active satellite subscription. Always test your device before using it outdoors.

  • Contact the Garmin Response center during an emergency.

Initiating an SOS Rescue

  1. Lift the protective cap from the SOS button.
  2. Press and hold the SOS button.
  3. Wait for the SOS countdown.
  4. Reply to the confirmation message from the emergency response service.

Sending a Custom SOS Message

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select SOS, and reply with a custom message.

Canceling an SOS Request

  1. Lift the protective cap and hold the SOS button.
  2. Cancel the SOS request.

Navigation Widget

  • Provides map, compass, and location information.

Acquiring GPS Satellite Signals

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Wait while the device locates satellites.

Panning and Zooming the Map

  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Navigation and pan or zoom the map.

Changing the Map Orientation

Attaching the Spine Mount Adapter

  1. Remove the short screw from the carabiner strap.
  2. Secure the spine mount adapter over the back of the device using the long screw included with the device.

Attaching a Lanyard

  1. Insert the loop of the lanyard through the slot in the device.
  2. Thread the other end of the lanyard through the loop and pull it tight.

Locking and Unlocking the Buttons

  1. Press to open the power menu.
  2. Select Lock Buttons.
  3. Press to unlock the buttons.

Device Care

  • Avoid chemical cleaners, solvents, and insect repellents.
  • Do not store the device where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur.
  • The device is water resistant to IEC Standard 60529 IPX7.
  • Rinse with fresh water after exposure to chlorinated or salt water environments.

Cleaning the Device

  1. Wipe with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution.
  2. Dry completely before using or charging.

Troubleshooting

  • Maximize battery life by reducing the backlight timeout and tracking send interval, and turning off Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless technology.

Resetting All Default Settings

  1. Sync your device with the Garmin Explore app to upload activity data.
  2. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  3. Select Settings and reset the device.

Charging the inReach Device

  1. Dry the USB port and weather cap before charging.
  2. Plug the power cable into the charging port and a compatible AC power adapter.
  3. Charge the device completely.

Saving Energy While Charging

  1. Connect the device to an external power source.
  2. Hold the power button until the screen turns off.
