Getting Started When using your device the first time, complete these tasks to set it up and get to know the basic features:

  1. Press and hold the power button to turn on the device.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to select your language and begin activating your device.
  3. Download the Garmin Messenger™ app to your phone and follow the on-screen instructions to pair and activate your device.
  4. Download the Garmin Explore™ app to your phone and log in with the account information you used to activate a service plan.
  5. Sync your device with the Garmin Messenger or Garmin Explore app.
  6. Test your device before you begin your trip.

  1. Turn on the inReach device.
  2. Bring your compatible phone within 10 m (33 ft.) of your device.
  3. Download the Garmin Messenger app and follow the on-screen instructions to complete pairing.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate a subscription service plan.

Initiating an SOS Rescue

  1. Lift the protective cap from the SOS button.

  3. Wait for the SOS countdown.

Cleaning the Device

  1. Wipe with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution.
  2. Dry completely before using or charging.

Troubleshooting

  • Maximize battery life by reducing the backlight timeout and tracking send interval, and turning off Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless technology.

Resetting All Default Settings

  1. Sync your device with the Garmin Explore app to upload activity data.
  2. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  3. Select Settings and reset the device.

Charging the inReach Device

  1. Dry the USB port and weather cap before charging.
  2. Plug the power cable into the charging port and a compatible AC power adapter.
  3. Charge the device completely.

Saving Energy While Charging
